Canons Park is HA8, west of the Edgware town centre, and it takes its name from the park that survives out of the Duke of Chandos estate. The streets around it were laid out in the 1930s, so the housing is the familiar bay-fronted semi with a front drive, a long back garden and, in a great many cases, a loft conversion added in the last twenty years. The Jubilee line station sits at the edge of it. Settled owner occupied ground, and the work follows: mostly housework on a weekly or fortnightly slot, £22 an hour per cleaner weekly and £24 fortnightly.

More people in Canons Park ring us about a bathroom than about anything else. Loft conversions and the extra floor
Hip to gable conversions with a rear dormer are everywhere in these streets, and each one adds a bedroom, usually an ensuite, and a second flight of stairs. That is worth an hour on a regular visit, which at £22 an hour is £22 more a week and is money well spent if the alternative is the top floor getting done fortnightly by accident. For carpets, a second flight is a second £41, since stairs are priced per flight rather than per house. The new ensuite is usually the fastest room in the house to scale up, because the shower gets daily use and the screen is new glass.
What gets booked, and what does not
Housework first, by a distance. Ovens come second and cluster in spring, £77 on a single and £110 on a double. Carpets run £36 a bedroom and £43 a living room, with a burst of them once the weather turns. Move out work turns up occasionally from the flats near the station and is priced from £156 for a studio like anywhere else in HA8. What we do not see much of here is tenancy churn, and there is no point writing the page as though we did.
Drives, and the sand in the joints
Almost every house here has its own drive, so the van comes off the road and we work directly from it. Plenty of those drives are block paved. A hose dragged flat across block paving picks up the jointing sand and carries it indoors, so we run the line along the edge and put a mat down at the threshold. Two minutes of care, and it saves an argument about the hall carpet. Round the Stonegrove and Spur Road side, where the estates were rebuilt in the 2000s and 2010s, the parking layouts are newer and tighter, so give us the block or the road name when you ring.
