One call settles more than an email thread does. Somebody picks up between 8am and 8pm on any day of the week, and most jobs have a number attached before the call ends: handover cleans from £156, bedroom carpets at £36, an oven at £77, housework at £22 per cleaner an hour. If the line rings out
An extraction machine drowns out a ringtone, and that is nearly always the explanation. Leave a postcode and one sentence about the job and the call comes back the same day. There will be no speech about how busy we are.
The seven things that get you a price on the call
- Bedrooms, the date keys go back if this is a move out, and whether floors and oven are joining the visit.
- Whether the loft has been converted. A hip to gable with a dormer brings a bedroom, usually an ensuite and a second staircase, and all three move the hours.
- What is under the carpet, if you happen to know. Parquet or old boards mean the machine gets set differently before anybody starts.
- How often you want housework and roughly how long, plus how many bathrooms are in daily use. Bathrooms drive the clock here harder than bedrooms do, thanks to the water.
- For carpets: the rooms you want done, how many flights of stairs, and whether the front pair were ever opened into one.
- The oven type, so single, double, 90cm range or AGA, and whether a hob and extractor are joining it.
- The road name, and whether the house has a drive. Between them those decide where the van stands and how far the hose has to travel.

A single rate covers the whole week. Sunday evening bills exactly as Wednesday morning does. The weekend adds nothing, the hour adds nothing, and coming out adds nothing. Early slots on the regular round go first, so allow about a week where the time of day matters more than the date.
Somewhere to stand the van
Five minutes spent on this at the booking beats a surprise on the morning. Our dip tank stays in the vehicle and a carpet hose reaches roughly 25 metres, so the gap between kerb and front door genuinely constrains the job. Most of the round is straightforward, since nearly every house has a drive. Near the station it is not. Barnet runs permit-controlled streets there and along the bus station approaches, the interchange forecourt is off limits for a van, and the Broadwalk Centre works keep shifting the access. The street gets checked in advance and a bay gets paid for where one is needed.
Three things that shift a start time
Friday afternoons come first, since they finish early on this round and Saturdays are quiet across much of it, so a Friday job wants a morning arranged earlier in the week. The town centre works are second, because diverted access near the station adds minutes to a run that used to take five. Third is spring, when the fortnight before Passover fills the diary with deep cleans and everything else works around them. None of the three touches what you pay.
The figures, briefly
Handover cleans band by size, running £156, £207, £243, £339 and £425 from a studio up to four bedrooms, with the oven and the floors quoted apart. Floors: bedrooms £36, living rooms £43, a through lounge £61, £41 for each stair flight, rugs £35 or £51. Ovens: singles £77, doubles £110, a 90cm range £114, a two oven AGA £143, plus £23 on a hob and £28 on an extractor. Housework: £22 an hour per cleaner weekly, £24 fortnightly, ironing £12 drawn from those same hours. Deep cleans start at £186 and cap at £498. Upholstery is per piece from £13. Paying
On completion: card, bank transfer or cash, with Visa, Mastercard and Amex all fine. Regulars mostly settle monthly by transfer while agents and landlords take an invoice. Domestic work needs no deposit, and no VAT is waiting at the end.
Where we go

If something is wrong
Call the same number within 48 hours and somebody returns to redo whatever got marked down, free. That route is a good deal shorter than a fortnight of argument about a deposit.
