Seven days, 8am–8pm

£77 buys a single oven in Edgware, £110 a double, £114 a 90cm range cooker and £143 a two oven AGA. Put a hob on the same visit for £23 or an extractor for £28. Everything that lifts out leaves the kitchen for a heated dip tank on the van. Whatever stays put gets hand work at the worktop with a caustic free gel, which means the cavity, the seals, and the door glass on both of its faces. Dinner can go in that evening.

One figure per appliance

Appliance Price
Single oven £77
Double oven £110
Range cooker, 90cm £114
AGA, two oven £143
Hob £23
Extractor £28

Shelves, side runners, grill pans, the fan cover and the drip tray all go in the tank at no extra cost. A built in single with a grill box over it remains a single. A double is one appliance, not a pair. Every figure on that table clears the £67 floor we apply to one off work unaided, so no small job surcharge comes into it, and adding the hob or the extractor to the same morning costs a fraction of a return trip.

What the tank does that a sink cannot

It runs warm, with a detergent that dissolves baked carbon off steel without scouring the enamel. Twenty minutes in there and a rack comes out looking like metal again, which beats an hour at your sink and keeps a dripping black tray off the worktop. While those soak, the fan cover comes off indoors and the element gets wiped carefully rather than wetted. Where the model permits it, the door comes apart so the brown film sitting between the panes can be got at. That inner pane holds most of it, and a clean you still cannot see through is barely a clean at all. Some doors are bonded or riveted and will not separate. We say which yours is before starting rather than force one and buy you a replacement.

The cavity gel carries no caustic, which matters more than it sounds. Caustic lifts printed markings off a control panel and dulls aluminium trim, and neither of those recovers. It also works more slowly than the harsh stuff, which is the trade being made and the reason a proper oven clean is a two hour job rather than a forty minute one. Seals get sponged, never soaked, because a saturated seal perishes and the oven then leaks heat for the rest of its life.

Timings, and cooking the same evening

Allow two hours on a single that has gone a year unattended. A double is closer to three, longer where the fan housing has to come out before anybody reaches the back wall. A 90cm range is about three hours, given two cavities, a wider door and a great deal more metalwork through the tank. An AGA runs to most of a day and has to be cold through by the time we arrive, so the switch goes off the previous evening. Everything is rinsed and neutralised before the kit goes back in the van, so nothing fumes when the oven next comes up to heat.

Hard water shows on glass and steel

Supply here runs at roughly 250 to 350 ppm. On a black glass hob, a stainless splashback or a glass extractor canopy that turns into white spotting within days of an ordinary wipe, which is why those surfaces get a descaler at the end rather than a general purpose spray. Small step, and it is the whole difference between clean and properly clean. Edgware genuinely is harder work than a soft water town on this one detail, and any local cleaner claiming otherwise has not been at it long.

Range cookers cluster at the north end

More range cookers stand per street up towards the Green Belt than anywhere else on the round. The big detached houses along the Edgwarebury lanes and the larger stock on the hill at Stanmore account for most of them, and several of those kitchens keep a second oven in a utility room, billed as its own appliance at £77 or £110. Down among the flats and the smaller houses it is singles with the occasional double. Give us the make and the width on the call and the figure comes back during it.

Done by hand, and the ones we turn away

Catalytic and pyrolytic liners never see the tank. Those rough matt panels are built to burn grease off themselves, and the tank solution strips the coating for good, which means buying replacement panels that cost more than the clean. They come out, get left alone, and go back in. An appliance that is already faulty gets refused as well. A door that will not shut. A dead element. A seal hanging loose. Have it repaired first, because cleaning round a fault tends to finish off what the fault began. Repairs, bulbs and seals go to a different trade. A cavity rusted through comes out looking worse for being cleaned, and saying that over the phone is kinder than saying it in your kitchen.

Booking one, and the fortnight to plan around

Two or three days is the usual wait, often the next morning where we are already working your end of HA8. All seven days, 8am to 8pm, and Sunday bills like Tuesday. Two stretches fill early. December into the first week of January goes first, for obvious reasons. The bigger one is spring: the fortnight before Passover is the busiest run of our year by a distance, with ovens, hobs and cupboards all wanted at once, and it books out months ahead. February is not early to ring for an April date, and it is the one window where genuinely nobody can be squeezed in at short notice.

Adding it to another job

A lot of ovens ride on something else. On a handover clean the oven is quoted apart here rather than folded into the band, and it gets done first so the kitchen can be finished around it. On a regular slot the oven interior sits outside the hourly visit entirely, since a proper job takes two hours on its own, so most households book one once or twice a year beside a normal visit. And where a whole kitchen is being reset, the team deep clean takes the cupboards and the surfaces while the oven parts soak outside. Every other figure is on the prices page.

Questions we get asked

Can the oven be used the same day?

Yes. Everything is rinsed and neutralised at the end and nothing caustic goes inside the property, so there is no smoke and no smell on the next switch-on. Twenty minutes with the door open and most households cook that evening.

What do a hob and an extractor cost?

£23 for the hob and £28 for the extractor when they go on beside the oven. Gas caps and crowns come off and soak alongside the racks. Ceramic tops want a scraper and a cream, and sugar that has burnt through the glaze is staying where it is.

Do you take on AGAs and range cookers?

Yes. £143 covers a two oven AGA and £114 a 90cm range. An AGA needs switching off the night before so it is stone cold on arrival, and it occupies most of a day rather than a couple of hours.

What is the dip tank?

A heated tank on the van holding a detergent that dissolves baked carbon off shelves, trays, runners and the fan cover. Parts soak about twenty minutes while the cavity gets hand work. It is why racks come back looking like metal.

What happens with self cleaning liners?

Catalytic and pyrolytic panels get hand work and never a dip, since the tank solution takes their coating off permanently. Say so when you ring. The glass, door, cavity and racks are all still done around them.

When should a spring oven clean be booked?

February for an April date. The fortnight before Passover is the busiest run of our year and fills months ahead, so a late request in that window gets turned down rather than squeezed in badly.
